Exclusive: Yale study attempting to 'prove' anti-Israeli bias at NYT does the opposite and reveals that an Israeli killed on 7 October got 25 times the coverage of a Palestinian killed by Israel. The Yale study was written by Edieal Pinker and subsequently pushed by Israeli propaganda outfits like HonestReporting, Israel National News and by the Jerusalem Post and the Times of Israel.

The NYT's coverage of Israeli deaths is wildly disproportionate to its coverage of Palestinian deaths. The study just never did the one very relevant sum that reveals it, which raises a serious question about how Yale let its name go on this. The study's headline "revelation" is that the NYT mentions Palestinian deaths more often than Israeli deaths and Israeli captives. What it never did is work that out per 1,000 dead, or any other normalisation. It is simple. The more people are killed, the more coverage there is. The question is whether it is proportionate. So divide the study's own numbers by the death tolls: in the study's own window, 7 October 2023 to 7 June 2024, Israel had killed 36,731 Palestinians on the Gaza health ministry's count. That count, by the way, is a floor: the Lancet puts the true figure 41 per cent higher. The toll today is past 73,000 and scholars say the real number is far above that. The result, from the study's own tables: an Israeli killed on 7 October got 25 times the coverage of a Palestinian killed by Israel. An Israeli soldier killed in Gaza got 16 times.

One Israeli hostage got more articles than a thousand dead Palestinians. Now, who wrote it? Pinker is a professor of operations research. He is an Israeli citizen who made aliyah in 1989, enlisted in the IDF and, in his own words, was "on the streets of Gaza" the following year, then patrolled southern Lebanon. He told the Times of Israel he did this study because American readers "were not getting a clear understanding of how Israelis were experiencing the war". The journal printed: "No potential conflict of interest was reported." Any outlet that ran this study without doing that sum (per 1,000 / any statistical normalisation procedure) has told you everything you need to know about itself. Statement from the Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory

Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory

16 September 2026

I am devastated by reports of people trapped under the rubble following the collapse of a building in Gaza, with lives at risk, as search-and-rescue operations led by the Civil Defence continue. An estimated 100 people, including 50 children, were living in the building when it collapsed.

I commend the humanitarian community that has quickly mobilized to support the emergency response. Egypt has provided heavy machinery, while the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are set to deliver relief items. Through the limited stocks available in Gaza, we will support survivors with health, shelter and other critical items and services. Lives may still be saved, and every effort must be made to reach those trapped under the rubble.

Across Gaza, people are living in hundreds of damaged structures assessed as unsafe, for lack of better options. Today’s tragedy underscores the grave risks faced by families living in these structures and the urgent need for safer alternatives. No one should have to risk their life simply to find a safe place to shelter.

Ahead of the rains, the humanitarian community is supporting those who choose to relocate from damaged buildings and flood-prone areas, including through voluntary relocation to safer sites.

I call for urgent approvals for the entry of heavy machinery, specialized equipment, engine oil and fuel needed for search-and-rescue operations. Tents, tarpaulins and other non-food items must also reach the most vulnerable communities in the next four weeks. Every possible effort must be made to save lives, protect people from further harm and provide families with safer places to live. Every minute counts.

On behalf of the humanitarian community, I extend my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones and to all those affected by this tragedy. We will remain in solidarity with the people of Gaza and continue working to help those in need.

Macklemore dropped from Ed Sheeran’s US tour after ‘free Palestine’ speech

The American rapper will no longer support Sheeran’s US leg of Loop tour after comments at MetLife Stadium show

Macklemore
has been dropped from the remainder of the US leg of Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour, after the American rapper drew headlines for saying “free Palestine” on stage at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

In a brief speech between songs on 4 September, the Grammy-winning artist told the audience he wanted the people of Gaza and “the occupied West Bank” to know “we have not forgotten about them”, prompting a petitionfrom the Israeli American Council demanding his removal from the tour.

Messina Touring Group, the promoter of the US leg of Sheeran’s tour, toldRolling Stone: “As the concert promoter for Ed Sheeran’s US Loop Tour, we have been notified by venues on the upcoming US tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates.” Sheeran did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
