Jerusalem Governorate Media – Since the early hours of today, Israeli occupation vehicles have stormed the town of At-Tur, east of occupied Jerusalem, and demolished a five-story residential building. The structure housed ten apartments and was home to approximately 70 residents, the majority of whom were women and children.
Occupation forces stormed the building, forcibly evacuated the residents, and prevented them from retrieving their belongings. They also assaulted several residents during the evacuation process before proceeding to demolish the building.
Occupation authorities had originally issued a demolition order for the building in 2022. Although residents had managed to halt the order's execution through the occupation's courts, they received a final demolition notice yesterday, and occupation forces carried out the demolition this morning.
Over the past years, the building's residents paid tens of thousands of dollars in fines and penalties while attempting to secure a building permit; however, occupation authorities refused to issue the license.
The demolition of the building occurs amidst ongoing restrictions imposed by occupation authorities on Palestinian construction in occupied Jerusalem, even as they continue to approve settlement plans within the city and its surrounding areas.
According to statistics from the Jerusalem Governorate, 427 demolition and leveling operations have been carried out in the governorate between the beginning of the year and the end of September 2026.
