The Alliance for Water justice in Palestine and 1for3.orgestablishthe Chris Affleck Education Fund
The Alliance for Water Justice in Palestine lost a treasured comrade and stalwart advocate for justice when Chris Affleck succumbed to pancreatic cancer on June 2, 2026. Bearing witness to what she learned during trips to Palestine in 2009 and 2015, Chris worked with us with unflagging determination for more than a decade. On March 30, just two months before her death, she joined our Stand Out at Harvard Square, carrying a sign reading ‘US Stop Arming Israel’.
Chris’ long span of social activism going back to the Civil Rights Movement, her commitment to achieving justice in Palestine and her 35 years as a public school teacher are described in her obituary and The Boston Globe as well as in social media and The Palestine Chronicle.
Chris greatly admired the projects for health, the environment (including access to clean water), and education being supported in Palestinian refugee camps by one of our Boston-area partner organizations, 1for3.org. As a former teacher, she had been especially eager to visit the innovative Zahrat al-Yasmeen kindergarten at the Lajee Center in Bethlehem’s Aida Refugee Camp that opened in 2021. Although she was unable to make a third trip to Palestine to visit the school, she eagerly followed its progress and supported it with personal donations.
In honor of Chris and her legacy, the Alliance and 1for3.orgplan have set up the Chris Affleck Education Fund which we hope will help sustain the operations of the kindergarten for years to come. Tax-deductible donations can be made on a special page on the 1for3.org website which will give additional information about the school and how donors’ funds will be used.
Please join us in honoring Chris’ extraordinary life with a gift that keeps hope alive for the children of Palestine.
