In May 2024, after an Israeli airstrike on a displacement camp in Rafah killed at least 45 Palestinians, Dua Lipa posted on Instagram: "Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza."
The Israeli military called the strike a "tragic accident," saying precision munitions targeted two senior Hamas militants and that shrapnel ignited a nearby fuel source. The IDF later released audio it said pointed to a Hamas ammunition warehouse contributing to the fire.
The strike was condemned by France, the EU, and dozens of governments. Lipa, who is of Kosovan-Albanian descent, has cited her family's experience fleeing the Kosovo War as shaping her views on civilian suffering in conflict.
She has not walked it back.
